Aries Season & The Energy of Mars
We are now in the thick of Aries season, ruled by the planet Mars. Mars is known as both the motivator and the planet of war. Depending on where it sits in your chart, it can either be advantageous or afflicted.
We also need to note that whether you have a day or night chart will influence the ideal placement of Mars. If you were born during the day, we prefer to see Mars in the lower half of the chart. If you were born at night, it’s more beneficial for Mars to sit in the upper half. Of course, there’s much more to this—it also depends on what Mars is in opposition to, conjunct with, squaring, or trining, as this affects how the energy expresses itself.
Mars is quite an intense and powerful planet. It’s very direct—it burns. And if it isn’t balanced, that intensity can become overwhelming, not just for you but for those around you.
How To Balance Planetary Energies
It’s important to understand that while we are born with these astrological energies within us, reflected by each planetary and astroidain placement , we also have the ability to work with them and disperse anything that may not be so positive. Through practices like yoga, meditation, and devotion to the light in your life (weather that me a godly form if thats for you, or just practicing gratitude), we can mitigate the effects of planets that may be in detriment—meaning they’re not in the most supportive position.
I’ve been staying at Sri Peetha Nilaya Ashram for the past few weeks, immersed in devotional service. During this time, there have been Satsangs where astrology and self-understanding practices were discussed. Some people spoke about astrology as too fixed an idea that can bound us.
I wanted to bring light to that, because I don’t believe that to be true—otherwise, I wouldn’t practice or use it.
As reminder, I never pose Astrology as a blueprint, more as an understanding of self to guide us to our highest evolutionary timeline which can be seen in the north node.
What I do understand is that astrology shows us our natural energetic makeup—how we are aligned with the cosmos, and how easily we can fall out of balance. Stress, overwork, emotional strain, and external pressures can all push us into suffering and strengthen the weaknesses in our chart, rather than elevating the brighter areas.
Some people naturally have easier planetary placements than others. This can explain why some individuals seem to move through life more effortlessly, especially if they’re not engaging in any spiritual, devoted, or reflective practices.
Energy & Alignment
What I’ve learned in recent weeks is that devotional practices—meditation, yoga, seva, sangha, and satsang—help clear what we might call “gunas,” or the negative imprints we carry or even pick up on our way.
These imprints can come from many sources:
- What we consume (food, media, news)
- The people we interact with
- Past conditioning or teachings that didn’t serve us
All of these can create heaviness or negativity within us. Especially if we arn't aware of them.
The purpose of these practices is to bring more light into the body. And the more light we cultivate, the stronger we become in protecting ourselves—not only from external negativity, but also from the more challenging expressions of our own astrological make up - for instance an afflicted Mars.
Evolve With Astrology
Astrology is not a fixed blueprint, it’s a guide. It shows how we move through the world, what motivates us, and why we are here in this lifetime - what we are here to do and learn - to evolve.
There is also a deep connection between this life and previous lifetimes. We cannot ignore past lives when discussing astrology, particularly when looking at the South Node. The South Node represents the skills, talents, and comfort zones we bring from past lives—what we already know and are familiar with. It will also be reflected in your Sun also in some cases.
Understanding Maleficent Mars
Mars itself can be a challenging planet—even when well placed, as its associated with war, anger, hatred and intensity. It can also represent conflict, separation, aggression, and physical experiences like inflammation or injury.
However, when used consciously, Mars is incredibly powerful. It gives us:
- Drive
- Motivation
- Strength
- Direction
It’s like a child with endless energy, if that energy isn’t expressed, it builds up and eventually explodes. But when channelled correctly, it becomes productive and focused.
A strong Mars can make someone highly driven, self-motivated, and action-oriented—but also impulsive. An afflicted or maleficent Mars, on the other hand, may lead to lack of motivation, low energy, or avoidance or onto the other spectrum where violence, anger and rage are centre stage.
Mars Placements
Mars works well in Aries and Scorpio, as these signs are ruled by Mars (Scorpio also has Pluto as an influence). However, star sign placement alone isn’t enough—we must consider:
- The house it’s in
- Its aspects
- Its degree
For example, Mars doesn’t harmonise well with the Moon or Cancer as a star sign. The Moon is fluid and emotional, while Mars is direct and fiery—they operate very differently.
Similarly, Mars can struggle in Venus-ruled signs like Taurus and Libra, as Venus seeks harmony while Mars pushes forward with force. They can however learn from each other although there maybe resistance to do so.
Mars, Aries & Finding Balance
When we think of Aries, we shouldn't immediately think of anger and having a temper—unless the energy is out of balance. In its highest expression, Aries embodies the positive qualities of Mars:
- Honesty
- Clarity
- Directness
- Courage
Aries energy is linear and forward-moving. It goes after what it wants without hesitation. But it can burn out quickly, and this is where balance, patience, tolerance is needed.
Aries can benefit from learning the patience and steadiness of Taurus—the sign that follows it. Because in astrology, each sign evolves from the previous one.
Aries carries the intuitive, mystical essence of Pisces, but with the courage to act on it. But Pisces reflects and dwells in the past, while Aries moves forward and into the future.
Working With Aries Energy
When Aries energy is out of balance, it can become:
- Impatient
- Reactive
- Easily frustrated
So it’s important to slow down, cultivate patience, and avoid overstimulation.
When Aries is in balance—through practices like meditation, restraint, and conscious action—it becomes incredibly powerful:
- Clear-minded
- Focused
- Fulfilled
- Free of emotional baggage
Aries is the first sign of the zodiac—it doesn’t carry the weight of what came before. It simply moves forward.
Applying This to Your Own Chart
It’s really valuable to look at your own chart and reflect:
Where does Aries sit for you?
What themes are coming up in that area of life?
Are you experiencing more fire—anger, frustration, restlessness?
This could also be linked to current transits in Aries (a stellium) which could be activating your Mars or Aries placements. You can read all about these current transits HERE
So however your Mars maybe placed, the way we evolve toward our North Node (our highest timeline) is through awareness and practices dedicated to mitigating anything out of balance. Whether this is through devotional practice, spirituality, reflection or simple daily gratitude, which enables us to focus on the light brings harmony from within.
And when we are in harmony within ourselves, we are less affected by external chaos and astrological challenges.
