My Aquarius Friends: A Personal Reflection In Aquarius Season

This blog is a little more personal than some of my others, but it feels especially relevant now that we are in Aquarius season.

While I often write about astrology in a broader, collective way, Aquarius energy is a recurring and deeply personal influence in my own lived experience and birth chart. When I look at the most meaningful, expansive, fulfilling and ever evolving relationships in my life — these include friendships, fleeting connections, and soul-aligned partnerships — well, they have all been with those with their sun in Aquarius or with other strong Aquarius placements, like their moon or ascendant.

But this isn’t accidental. There is a reason why I need Aquarius and they need me in this lifetime. So this blog isn’t just about Aquarius season in general — it’s about why Aquarius energy keeps finding me in relation to my natal chart, why I feel so at home around Aquarius people, and what I’ve learned through loving Aquarian minds and hearts which can benefit whole collective.

My Aquarius Friends: Why They Find Me & Why I Need Them

Astrologically, we’ve moved into the Aquarius part of the year ruled predominantly by Uranus — the planet of awakening, disruption, liberation, radical honesty and individualism. And while this energy can feel unsettling and unstabilising for some, I’ve always felt a sense of ease and peace around Aquarian people.
Which makes so much sense when I look at my natal chart.

Aries and Aquarius: Growth Through Freedom and Fire

To note, I am an Aries sun and mercury, and on there is something very powerful about the Aries – Aquarius dynamic itself. Aries brings initiation and courage, working from instinct, and raw life force; Aquarius brings vision, innovation, objective thinking, observation and considerations. They both are future thinkers and together, they create aligned action for collective evolution that is raw and real. Aries helps Aquarius bring confidence and action to their out of the box ideas, while Aquarius helps Aries step back, widen perspective, and act with intention rather mostly impulse. Their dynamic is also rooted in mutual understanding and respect for freedom & independence, entwined with radical truth and drive for soul growth. When balanced, this connection doesn’t try to tame or dominate — it encourages both signs to grow, individually and together at the same time.

Aquarius and Uranus: Not Here to Comfort, Here to Liberate

Aquarius people are often misunderstood. They can be labelled “detached,” “aloof,” or “emotionally unavailable” but that’s not the reality of whats going on inside.

Aquarius energy isn’t here to soothe — it’s here to wake us up - awaken us!

Ruled by Uranus (and traditionally Saturn), Aquarius focus's on:

• Broader perspective over emotional overwhelm/burdens
• Truth over performance
• Soul nourishment over ego fuelled activities
• Freedom and exploration over familiar territory
• Collective evolution over personal needs

Aquarians don’t want to cage you — they want to see you clearly, outside of conditioning, roles, and expectation.

And that’s exactly why they work so well with my birth chart.

Aquarius in My 7th House: The Mirror

In my natal chart, Aquarius rules my 7th house — the house of long term contractual relationships, partnerships, mirrors, and “the other.”

This means I often am drawn to Aquarian qualities in relationships. Traits I seek instinctually are:

• Those who think differently
• Those who challenge me and what is "normal"
• Independant in mind and body
• Offer mentally stimulating conversations
• Are forward thinkers
• Are good with technology and gadgets (mainly men with this one)

My chart highlights that these relationships are not meant to be overly possessive or emotionally enmeshed. They’re meant to be conscious, evolving, and rooted in mutual respect and autonomy.

Aquarius teaches me that love doesn’t need to be dramatic to be real, although my proud Leo ascendant, my bold Aries sun, my deep and dwelling moon, may say otherwise. (Lol)

A reminder that what we need in this lifetime is what we are innately lacking within us or unaware of consciously.

A Chart with Little Air… and Why Aquarius Balances Me

One of the biggest reasons I get on so well with Aquarius is also quite simple in regards to my astrology chart:
I have minimal air elements in my chart.
I’m fire-water heavy. Aries Sun. Leo Ascendant. Pisces and Venus Moon.

I feel fast. I love hard. I move instinctively.

Aquarius brings air where I lack it, coming into my peripheral as the below:

• Perspective when I’m too close
• Logic when my empathetic emotions blur the edges
• An objective moment, when my fire wants to impulsively react

My Aquarian friends help me pause not in dwelling but objective observation. Zoom out. See the wider picture instead of just the entangled moment.

And when doing so, don’t dampen my fire but instead circulate it to resolve and more forward.

North Node in Gemini: Think and Exchange More

My North Node in Gemini (air sign) tells a big part of this story.

In this lifetime, I’m here to:

• Learn through deep communication
• Stay curious rather than fixed in ideas
• Exchange thoughts instead of defending beliefs
• Listen as much as I speak

Aquarius — as an air sign — supports this soul direction beautifully. My Aquarian friends constantly invite me into new ways of thinking, seeing, and questioning reality.
They remind me that growth doesn’t always come from intense moments but being curious in the small ones.

Aquarius Opposite My Ascendant: The Teacher Across from Me

With Leo rising, Aquarius sits opposite my Ascendant, activating the axis of self vs collective.

Leo asks:
Who am I?
How can I shine?
How do I express my heart and soul the best?”

Aquarius asks:

How does this serve the whole?
What happens beyond the ego?
What’s the bigger picture?

Aquarius energy teaches me humility without dimming my light.

It reminds me that my individual light isn’t meant to shine for just performance — it’s meant to shine to also contribute. Which is really interesting, because before I met a long term Aquarius partner I was performing and very unhappy. Then I did a lot of inner work through meditation, yoga and reflection... met met a somewhat aligned partner.... for my chart at least, and then began a more soul focused life and a time when my ego came forth to die.... and this particular Aquarius, along with my best friend, helped me to do that. A big thank you to you guys, you know who you are.

Why Aquarius Season Feels Like Mental Fresh Air

Aquarius season is a time to:

• Detach from outdated narratives
• Rethink identity and how you relate to others
• Question what we’ve accepted as “normal”
• Liberate ourselves from emotional reflexes

For me, it’s a season of mental detox and brings space for the new.

What We Can All Learn from Aquarius and Uranus Right Now

Beyond personal charts and individual relationships, Aquarius season offers something valuable for every zodiac sign. With Uranus in the spotlight this month, we’re invited to think on a broader scale — beyond personal narratives and familiar patterns — and to question where we may be conforming simply because it feels safer. Aquarius energy asks us to experiment, to think outside the box, and to honour our individuality, even when it feels uncomfortable or misunderstood. While this sign can sometimes appear unwavering or fixed in its perspective, there is also wisdom in that steadiness: a reminder to stand by truth, principle, and vision rather than constantly reshaping ourselves to fit external expectations. During Aquarius season, growth often comes not from emotional intensity, but from clarity, originality, and the courage to be different.

A Quiet Thank You to My Aquarius People

And so, to the Aquarians in my life — past and present — thank you. Thank you for the situations and conversations that changed me, for the space you offered without explanation, for the honesty that arrived exactly when it was needed. Thank you for meeting my fire with compassion rather than the need to control it, and for showing me that love, friendship, and connection can be expansive, intelligent, and with a sense of freedom. You know who you are. And during Aquarius season especially, I am thankful to feel how deeply your presence has shaped my growth.
